Datapp-NBP | Autumn Release Event

Cloud-native technology, as an emerging digital innovation, has become a pivotal tool in today's digital transformation landscape. With the advent of the cloud-native era, an increasing number of applications are being developed and deployed on the cloud, making cloud migration an irreversible trend.

It is widely recognized that the digital transformation of enterprises is primarily driven by business value. Due to the unique nature of each enterprise, it is often challenging to find fully applicable experiences to draw upon, inevitably leading to a fragmented transformation process. This fragmentation significantly impacts traditional application architectures, while the proliferation of new applications further exacerbates the fragmentation of existing enterprise architectures. Therefore, it is essential to reorganize and differentiate strategies based on the distinct characteristics of various applications.

To better serve users and enhance the security and reliability of information systems across different environments, the latest autumn release of the Datapp-NBP Data Backup and Recovery System introduces new features, including backup solutions for K8S clusters, distributed databases, and object storage archiving solutions.

Ⅰ.K8S Cluster Backup and Recovery Solution.

An increasing number of organizations are transitioning to microservices and containerized deployments, all of which inevitably involve the "container orchestration platform" Kubernetes. By building large-scale Kubernetes clusters, they aim to achieve high availability, high performance, and secure management. However, we have observed that many enterprise-grade backup solutions are not suitable for Kubernetes, primarily due to the following reasons:

  • Traditional backup and recovery solutions are designed for virtual machines or physical servers, not for Kubernetes applications;

  • Traditional backup and recovery solutions assume that the infrastructure remains consistent during the backup and recovery process, whereas Kubernetes applications often span multiple clouds and data centers;

  • Most backup and recovery solutions are centrally managed, but Kubernetes typically operates in a self-service manner.

Data protection is crucial for customers' Kubernetes applications, especially for stateful applications. The Datapp-NBP Data Backup and Recovery System enables enterprise-level application and data protection with just a few clicks, offering comprehensive data management and protection for Kubernetes production systems and critical business applications.

i.A flexible backup approach tailored to Kubernetes characteristics.

With the Datapp-NBP Data Backup and Recovery System, users can back up and restore any Kubernetes application, including all data and related Kubernetes objects. It supports backup and recovery at different granularities, such as Pod or namespace levels. The robust backup and recovery capabilities ensure high availability of applications and facilitate cross-cluster data migration.

ii.Multi-tenant self-service management feature.

Datapp-NBP supports granting backup permissions to multiple tenants or operators based on platforms or namespaces. Each operator can manage one or more platforms and namespaces, handling backups and restorations independently. The system also includes a comprehensive three-role user management framework, ensuring self-service flexibility while enhancing overall security controls.

Ⅱ.Distributed Database Backup and Recovery Solution.

With data volumes growing exponentially, higher demands are being placed on databases in terms of data collection, storage, transmission, presentation, analysis, and optimization. Enterprises aim to better achieve data asset governance, value addition, and scientific decision-making, while ensuring high reliability, availability, and online data analysis to further unlock the value of data. Distributed databases, with their excellent storage scalability, horizontal performance scaling, and data analysis capabilities, have gradually become one of the most important types of databases. Distributed databases hold broad prospects in enterprise and organizational applications and often host core applications and data. However, due to the complexity of distributed environments and the dispersion of data, data backup and recovery have become critical issues in ensuring the stability and reliability of database systems.

Datapp-NBP safeguards data by providing an excellent backup solution for distributed databases such as TiDB and TDSQL through interface-level compatibility and adaptation:

  • Interface-level backup: Achieved through the storage engine interfaces of distributed databases, ensuring consistent backup of data files, log files, and more. This approach offers high backup consistency and efficiency.

  • Flexible recovery: Supports recovery on both the original and different machines, without being tied to specific hardware platforms, enabling seamless disaster recovery.

Ⅲ.Object Storage Archiving Solution.

Object storage fundamentally transforms the storage landscape by addressing and resolving issues once considered challenging: uninterrupted scalability, declining elasticity, limited data durability, endless technological updates, and uncontrolled costs. Similarly, object storage serves as an excellent solution for backup storage.

Datapp-NBP supports leveraging object storage as a key component of archival backup, fully utilizing its high scalability and other features to provide users with more comprehensive solutions, such as the typical D2D2C deployment model.

In this model, Datapp-NBP local backup devices are deployed in the user's on-premises data center, while object storage services are activated in the cloud to replicate backup data for disaster recovery. Compared to traditional offsite disaster recovery solutions, this approach offers a higher cost-performance ratio. There is no need to deploy separate backup servers or appliances in the cloud, and the billing characteristics of cloud-based object storage result in lower costs for backup storage.

As a leading data security provider in China, DatApp is committed to meeting the diverse development needs of users across various industries by offering comprehensive, robust, and continuous productized services. With a focus on higher efficiency, greater flexibility, and lower TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), DatApp continues to innovate and progress, making it the inevitable choice for achieving differentiation and competitive advantage in the future.
